Borrowed from the ABATE of Ohio web site (because I thought they said it the best). “ABATE is a freedom of choice organization, dedicated to the premise that the individual is best suited to decide the type of motorcycle to ride, the type of safety gear to wear, and their own personal lifestyle.” “The primary objective of ABATE is to monitor legislative activity in regard to laws affecting motorcyclist, especially those designed to limit our freedom of choice, and to encourage all members to become politically involved in order to effect positive legislation and deter that of a negative nature.” Although ABATE organizations differ slightly from state to state, they all have the same basic mission, to promote, practice and teach motorcycle safety while actively lobbying our elected officials on all levels. Why should you join ABATE? - Regardless of state, ABATE works to protect the rights of all motorcyclists through direct involvement in the political process. You, as an individual, can help in the ongoing struggle against anti-motorcycle legislation in your state and across the United States, by joining ABATE. Each states ABATE organization is made up of several chapters (locals in some states). To find the nearest ABATE chapter/local to you, visit your respective state’s ABATE web site for more information. Not all states have an ABATE organization. If you can not find an ABATE chapter/local near you, or that you wish to belong to, please look in to supporting one of the many other Motorcycle Rights Organizations (MROs) such as the Modified Motorcycle Association (MMA) and the American Motorcycle Association (AMA). A Message from BikerCrap We have been ABATE members for many years. In addition to knowing our membership and assistance helps to fight for and protect our freedoms as motorcyclists, we have also enjoyed the friendships and bonds that have come with being a part of the ABATE family. Many ABATE chapters/locals host their own fund raising events, such as bike nights, burger burns and biker rodeos. Chapters/locals also combined forces to host regional and statewide bike rallies.
